What are the predicted web design trends for 2021?
There are a number of different web design trends that are predicted to be popular in 2021. These include:
- Retro typography– in 2020 we saw a lot of 1920’s and art deco style typography used for the above the fold content, and this has been incredibly effective. Throughout 2021, we predict that retro fonts will become increasingly popular for companies and businesses in a wide range of sectors.
- Horizontal scrolling- once thought of as a poor choice for web design, horizontal scrolling is seeing something of a resurgence as we leave 2020, and it seems like this may be an outsider trend to watch into the new year. Horizontal scrolling can be beneficial for mobile users, who are often used to side swiping more frequently due to apps and social media platforms. This can take some restructuring of your website, but it may well be a positive change for the new year.
- Dark mode design- this has been very popular throughout both 2019 and 2020, and the practical benefits for website users, and potential customers and clients, means that this is a design style that will be around for a long time to come. If you haven’t yet jumped on board with dark design, it can be easier to implement than you might think. And the new year could be the perfect time to make this change. Consider combining the dark background colour with a brighter, bolder colour like yellow.
- Immersive experiences- it has been predicted that 2021 will see the rise of immersive visual experiences for landing page content. This includes 360 degree imagery that can be controlled by the website user, or potential customer or client, as well as video content, audio and animated design. This can be very effective for capturing attention, and piquing the interest of the website users, who may then be more likely to spend more time on your website, potentially purchasing your products or signing up to your services. As there are so many design options for creating this kind of immersive experience, your company can choose the option that is best suited to the branding and company persona.
- Parallax effects- animations and effects with parallax scrolling have been popular throughout 2020, adding depth and texture to websites. It is predicted that this will continue throughout 2021, although it is important to ensure that these do not detract from the main visuals of the page, or make the text difficult to read.
