Be a more efficient designer!

Most of us designers and many freelancers wished they could manage their time more effectively, but then again, don’t we all? It seems like no matter how much work you get done in a day, time seems to evade us and it still feels like we never get anything done. Time management is one of the biggest challenges out there and it seems to attack us every day.

So first off, make a plan for your time. Make sure you have no priorities the day in which you need to get something done. It’s up to you how you do this, most people make to-do lists, this has been proved effective as you can tick or cross what you’ve done as you go along throughout the day. Try this for a week and see how productive you’ve been at the end of it, if it works carry on; if it doesn’t, don’t worry; there’s something out there for everyone.

Hot Spots. These are so important as people struggle to stay focused when they’re not in a comfortable environment. Pick a spot where you work the best, and we know it sounds crazy, but pick an hour also. Personally, we’re on top form early in the day. This is crucial as it can cost you your work and your time.

Acknowledge your distractions and find a way to minimise them. Even if that means turning your phone off and putting it in another room and locking the door, you’re not going to get anything done if you’re too busy Tweeting and Tumblr-ing. If you need certain social media platforms, make them available at certain times throughout the day so when you’re working, you won’t be distracted as easily.

Finally, don’t work too long. Cut back on hours and work when you can. Happy days!
