SEO and web marketing techniques are crucial for small businesses. With the proper SEO in place, your website can draw in way more organic traffic, which leads to more sales. But what if your current SEO strategy just isnt working? How can you edit it without losing out on any advantages you might have developed? Well, here at Pumpkin Web Design, we are Preston’s leading web marketing experts. As a result, we have produced this guide to SEO experiments for small businesses.
Content
The first of our SEO experiments for small businesses will take a look at the content. We all know content is vital for SEO, as well as your website in general. However, this does not mean that all content is created equal. In fact, your website could be harboring some content that is not adding value to your site. As a result, this will devalue your website as a whole, and have a negative impact on your search engine rankings.
To combat this, take a look through your websites content.
First of all, look at which pages rank for specified keywords, and keep those as strong content. In fact, you can use these pages to your advantage later.
Then, take a look at content that may now be out of date or irrelevant. Perhaps its an article relating to an item you no longer stock? Or maybe it’s an article with outdated references? Either way, this is content that will drag your website down. Take it off for now, and look at re-writing it in the future.
Once you have done this, leave it 2 weeks, and see if the removal of negative content has boosted your rankings.
Linking
Remember those pages that ranked well for relevant keywords? We asked you to keep hold of those? Well, the idea with this experiment is to use internal linking to raise your website profile.
Internal linking works by directing Google to crawl other pages connected to the current one. If those connected pages are ranking for the keywords, they are obviously great quality content. As a result, Google will raise the value of the original, focus article, and your website.
So, go back through your content, and find content that can be linked to your strong articles. Edit these articles and make sure your link is well integrated within the text, and seamless: not just a random “click here” link.
Again wait for 2 weeks, and see if more of your pages are ranking for keywords. If so, check your website ranking overall, you may have climbed further.
