HTML practices and tips for SEO

When it comes to on page SEO, there are many considerations. From content quality to content type, it can be easy to neglect the more technical aspects of SEO. • The title tag
  • The headings
  • The image alt text

HTML practices and tips for SEO

Head

Within this section of your HTML file is the meta description and the title.

Meta Description-
This is the snippet of text that will be displayed on the search engine results page. The more use you make of the meta description, including the keywords you are ranking for, the better your click-through rate may be. This is because it indicates relevance to the viewer.
Title-
Search engines need to understand the content of your page, and they take this from the title. Make sure that your title is descriptive, so that Google and other search engines can rank your page appropriately. Try and use the relevant keywords within your title, as long as it makes sense to do so.

Body

Within this part of your HTML the content is placed. This needs to be clearly set out to make it easier for your viewers to read. It also makes it easier for the search engines to understand your content.

Heading tags-
These should be used to structure your content. From <h1> to <h6> heading tags can help search engines to understand the content, while also making it easier for viewers to read. Try and use your keyword within at least one of your headings, but only if the content will still make sense.
Image alt text-
This is text that is placed between the <alt> tags and indicates the text that should be displayed if the image does not load. It is also helpful for search engines as it provides a clue as to the content of the image. Images that use alt text are more likely to rank in the google image results.

In summary

HTML practices and tips for SEO include making use of the meta description tags, the title tags, the heading tags, and the image alt text. For more information or advice, why not contact us at Pumpkin Web Design today?
